#MEADE AUTOSTAR II SOFTWARE#
Once the software boots up on the handbox properly it seems that I am ok for the rest of my viewing session, but, at power up, approximately half the time I turn the unit on, I get garbled characters on the screen.
#MEADE AUTOSTAR II UPDATE#
something version of AutoStar, and since the update I have had similar issues at startup. I updated to, I believe 4.2g in January from a 2. Has anyone seen this problem before? If so, what was the solution? A couple of things I'll try: open the hand controller and check for loose ribbons/dirty contacts open the base of the scope and check the wiring in there.

This didn't fix anything: I still get garbled characters and can't even get the scope to align. I was able to get into safe mode (9,9,9 at startup) and reload 4.2g via my laptop. After powering up and down several times, I can sometimes get lucky and get everything looking OK for just a few minutes before the characters turn into gibberish. I thought perhaps the cold weather was the culprit, so I brought the scope into the warm house and tried again to no avail. This time, the paddle "chirped" a few times, and then got garbage characters again. I powered the scope down and back up again. I've had my 8" LX200 GPS for about 1 year and haven't had any issues - until now: I powered up the scope the other night and during an easy align, the characters on the ASII paddle got garbled.
